‘Stay committed to yourself and your health’
Nutrition expert, Rujuta Diwekar, was in Chennai recently to conduct a workshop on healthy eating and nutrition organized by Lifecell, India’s largest stem cell bank.
The author of Don’t Lose your Mind, Lose Your Weight and Women & The weight loss Tamasha, took the Chennai crowd by storm with her disarming smile and meaningful repartees.
The trainer who gained popularity as the secret behind Kareena Kapoor’s size zero figure, could not stress enough on the fact that eating local food is the best way to be healthy.
Not only does it give us the best nutrition, it also helps reduce carbon footprint, she says.
Stick to your traditional ways of cooking, says Rujuta. Inclusion of staples like rice, coconut, ghee, peanuts and oil is a must as part of a healthy South Indian diet, according to her.
Dwelling on portion size, Rujuta says, “The stomach is your best diet guru”. Learn to listen to your stomach’s signals so that you stop eating when you are almost full and thus prevent overeating, she emphasizes.
The quality of the food we eat is of utmost importance, says Rujuta. Planning the day’s diet irrespective of how busy you are is an essential part of being fit, she says.
“Don’t count calories, count nutrients”, she says while stressing on the fact that we should eat as much as we need to be energetic through the day.
Another fact that she drives home is the danger of using plastic food containers and lunchboxes which leads to hormonal imbalance and related diseases like hyperthyroidism.
Focussing on the next aspect of good health, Rujuta exhorts that we should aim to keep our muscles fit through strength, cardio and flexibility exercises.
Adequate sleep is as important as a healthy diet and exercise for a person to lose weight, says Rujuta. All this combined with the right attitude can make you feel and look great, she says while signing off.
Rujuta also took on questions from the audience ranging from menopause diet to food supplements with enthusiasm and the workshop drew to a cheerful conclusion.
This was Rujuta’s first public forum in Chennai, revealed the event organizers, Purrple Hazze Events whose maiden event smooth-sailed from start to finish.
