Ayurvedic diet for common illnesses

Diet and nutritional requirements are two words that have become the mantra of a modern lifestyle. People have started using these words often in daily life to make sure their health is protected. But, is it today? Or was it better in the bygone days?

In the olden days, even before the concept of modern diet and nutrition was evolved, the Ayurvedic system talked about the importance of personalization of diet. Stress was laid on the nutritional values of each food item available with adequate emphasis on their health benefits and seasonal impacts on the human body.

Like the modern nutritional and diet systems, Ayurveda also explains how the common diet is beneficial for the management of health. According to Ayurveda, the word ‘Diet’ literally means anything which nourishes the body and mind and does not disturb their physiological functioning.

The concept of life is based on three pillars – Food, sleep and happy life or sex, these three decide the life of any individual. Ayurveda lays special emphasis on explaining these three pillars in detail; we take a closer look at the diet aspect.
