Dermatology Q&A: Tips to tackle brittle hair

1. Hello doctor, I have very brittle hair. Even though I oil it daily, it gets brittle by end of day. I use conditioner once a week. Pl help
A hot oil massage with coconut oil, once a week, improves the blood circulation in your scalp and preconditions your hair.
Also it’s important to oil your hair each time before you shampoo. Oil itself is a good conditioner for hair.
Use conditioner, wash off or leave in, every time you shampoo. It will reduce brittleness.
Go for a protein-rich diet. Include eggs, sprouts and soya in your diet for healthy hair.
2. Dear Doctor. My palms are very rough. I have tried different moisturisers. But some half hour after applying, it becomes rough again. Is there anything I can do about this?
Your skin type sounds like it is dry. Avoid repeated washing of hands to prevent dryness. I recommend something called sandwich treatment for severe dryness. Use coconut oil on your palms 15 mins before bath. Wash off with a mild hand wash or glycerin soap and immediately follow it up with a good moisturizer with natural ingredients like honey, hemp or coconut in it. Eat 3 to 4 almonds daily or a handful of flax seeds to provide good moisturisation from within
