This week’s answers:

I am 38 and is in good health. But have slightly high blood pressure., 8 weeks ago, I had pain from lower back all the way to toe on the left side (left hip area, left thigh and left calf).
Looks like the pain is because of the nerve pinch. There is no swollen or color change. I took some alopathy medicines like pain killers and muscle relaxant which has helped a lot but not 100%.
While walking I used to feel pain in thigh, calf and nerve between thigh and calf and most of the time I feel pain on the back of the thigh till few days back but now better.
3 to 4 weeks before this pain started I also had back pain, that may be due to some heavy lifting I had done. I work as a computer professional, my job is to sit in front of the computer 9 hrs a day and I try to walk after every 20 – 30 mins. When I’m lying face down, I feel bit better. Left leg pains when I try to stretch (bend forward and touch my toes).
Kindly advice what medicine to cure the pinching pain in future. If you need any more information, please let me know.
Thank you, Suresh Kumar

Hi Dr Gowthaman

I have read a lot of cures prescribed by you through Sify. Hence motivated to write to you about my problems.
I am a 46 year old lady, a mother of 2 children. I am a vegetarian.

My health background:
I have border line cholesterol. I have not been prescribed any meds. Not diabetic as yet.
Of late my periods are irregular. For the past 7 years I have been suffering from severe acne and for the past three years hyper pigmentation (blotches on my cheek bone area, my nasal bridge just below where my eyebrows start). Whe the acne appears, it starts as a deep red patch and then remains so for weeks- hard and red.
Since I am fair complexioned, this is the forst thing everyone notices followed by umpteen questions. An Ayurveda doctor advised my friend with a similar condition to drink Manjishtadi Kashayam 15 ml + 60 ml of water twice daily (morning empty stomach and in the eve say between 6.00 – 7.00 PM) and to apply yeladhi choornam with curd or thulasi leaf extract. However when I read about about your cure, I found some difference in the presribed cure:
You have advised Manjishtadi Kashayam 15 ml + 60 ml of warm water thrice daily before food with Arogya Vardini gutika 2 tablets thrice daily after food with warm water and external application of Thiktakam gritam followed by warm water bath after 45 minutes of application.
My doubts:Is this condition of mine curable? How can I correct my irregular periods? Is it because I am nearing menopause? I have acne, so is Thiktakam gritam advisable for my face?
Is it half an hour before food that I should take Manjishtadi Kashayam? Do I also have to take Arogya Vardini gutika ? If so will it be there at kottakal Arya Vaidyasala outlets?
How much water intake do you recommend? Any other suggestions for me? Any food that I should specfically avoid? Should I avoid intake of cold water / food like ice cream or even curd?
Sorry for this question but it is because for my anxiety that i ask. How long do you think I will have to follow this mediaction or any thing else that you suggest for me to see a change?
Thanks a ton for your time doctor. I wish I were in Chennai. Would have met you in person.
It’s such a great service you are doing to people. Thanks to Sify too!
Regards – samna cp

Dear Doctor,

I am 59 years old and having diabetic and BP which is under control by some Allopathic Medicine.
My wife is quite younger than me about 35 years so she wishes to have sex and I am unable to satisfy her fully.
I have erection / stiffness problem with early ejaculations.

Please advice some solution in Ayurveda and what is the treatment available which I can take with my regular medicine.

Thanks for your advice.
Best Regards
Anil Yadev.

Hi Anil,
Ayurveda has good solutions for both Diabetes and reduced sexual functions. Both men and women with diabetes can develop sexual problems because of damage to nerves and small blood vessels. Nerve signals control internal organs like the heart and bladder, but people do not have the same kind of conscious control over them as they do over their arms and legs. The nerves that control internal organs are called autonomic nerves, which signal the body to digest food and circulate blood without a person having to think about it. The body’s response to sexual stimuli is also involuntary, governed by autonomic nerve signals that increase blood flow to the genitals and cause smooth muscle tissue to relax. Damage to these autonomic nerves can hinder normal function. Reduced blood flow resulting from damage to blood vessels can also contribute to sexual dysfunction.
Ayurveda has two approaches to solve this problem. They are

a. Detoxification followed by Rejuvenation and aphrodisiac therapies
b. Addressing this problems directly by taking medicines, yoga and Diet

Detoxification and Rejuvenation, Aphrodisiac therapies

Ayurveda recommends purification therapies like vomiting, Purgation, bloodletting, medicated enema and Medicated nasal drops therapy for complete detoxifications. Any one of these therapies is carefully selected after considering the cause, age, disease condition, complication, season etc. These primary detoxification therapies are supported by the Preliminary and post therapy procedures for the complete care.

After these purification therapies, the patient is asked to undergo a series of diet and medicine regime, which helps in rejuvenation which in turn helps them to perform better. Ayurveda recommends virilification therapies for ED. This therapy claims to make the patient as ‘virile as a horse’ and makes use of various aphrodisiacs, tonics to be used internally and externally, and appropriate diet plans. The remedy includes

1. Powder of Indian ginseng to be taken with milk
2. Velvet bean powder to be taken with milk
3. Flowers of Drum stick tree in the diet
4. Crab extract in the diet
5. Fig fruits in the diet
6. White pumpkin juice and Pumpkin seed oil
7. Indian Asparagus processed with milk (100 ml of milk + 200 ml of water + 10 gm of Indian Asparagus powder – Boiled and reduced to 100 ml) taken in empty stomach helps the women to come out of their Diabetic reproductive trouble.
2. Addressing with Medicines – Ayurveda recommends both internal and external medications for this problem
3. Sukra Vallabha Ras
4. Amrita Prasa Ghee
5. Maha Kalyanaka Ghee
6. Bhallataka Lehyam
7. Linga Vardhana Thailam
8. Soubhakya Vardana Thailam
9. Shilajatu Parpam
10. Karisalai Parpam

There are more than 1000 Ayurvedic recipes for treatment and management of ED.

Yoga for Erectile Dysfunction

Apart from herbal remedies, some simple exercises can help improve ED. These exercises relieve physical and psychological stress which in turn helps improve cardio-vascular functions essential in treating ED.

Many Yoga experts advocate Kanda Asana which has been clinically proven effective for improving strength in legs, thighs, and muscles below the navel region. The asana also reduces stiffness in hips and joint pains. It also improves sexual vigor and is, thus, good for treating impotence including erectile dysfunction.

The primary objective of the Ayurveda therapies and medicines is to bring back the normalcy in the functional elements of the human body which not only corrects the problems in the reproductive system but also helps in overcoming Diabetes and its other complications too.

My 5 yr old son is diagnosed of having Vitiligo (Pit Alba). 5 months back I found that two white spots appeared on his bottom. Sir he has been having problem with passing tools since he was 4 yrs, and has a habit of soiling his under pants. Sometimes when i am at work , his grand parents must have not observed that and the stools got dried and stuck to his bottom.. when I came and wash him , i found that he was saying that it hurts him. Since the stools had dried, I wash washed it with a little force. After washing , while drying him up I saw that the skin have lost its color and has small white spots (The size of medium size bindis) on both the bottoms. I initially though it must have been caused due to the washing and will go away , but it did not.

Now I have been treating him with Alopathy as well as Ayurveda (As i have more faith in it as a permanent cure). The allopathy doctor has suggested me to apply T-Bis cream (Tracrolimus) to the patches, give him Dicaris tab 1/2 (Sat & Sun), Inj Vit A once in 10 days.[ Note:I am done with this course in the first three months]. Now the Dr has suggested him to take Light treatment.I have not started that as of now.

The Ayurveda Dr has given a mixture (reddish in color) to be taken 1-1 with honey. Doctor my problem now is that though the white dots have reduced considerably. they refuse to get the same color of the surrounding skin.On taking the Auyrvedic medicine he gets cold in 2-3 days and starts to soils his pants with stool, started soiling (for last 6 months frequently) mostly when he goes down to play in evening with friends, surprisingly he is clean when he comes from school and has never done it in school pants. He passes dry hard stools most of the times and in small quantity, refuses to sit to pass the remaining stools. As a result passes small amt 5 to 6 times a day. Has lost weight and is appears less healthy and tall than his school class friends. After taking the Ayurvedic medicine when he gets cold , I have to request the dr to give him some medicines to get his cold in check. This is going in round and round circles for 4 months now. Some times I am fed up of making suffer my baby with all this medicines. Actually when I continued the treatment with out break he once had developed fissures and was in lot of pain while passing stools. I had to stop all the medicines and give him (Flegyl,Nutrolin B, and Canesten Ointment) as adviced by our Family physician.

Dr request you to let me know what diet should I give him to resolve the condition swiftly and permanently. Does Milk and Paneer make the situation worst? He likes both of them. He takes Milk with Bourvita. Is my son having some digestive disorder? Can I give him Vitcofol and Ostocalcium B12 Syrup to keep him in good health? (Note he has been a healthy child before so long). Should I continue with Dicaris tab 1/2 (Sat & Sun) and Inj Vit A ? Sir, no one from our family in last generations have had Vitiligo. Our family does not have history of Vitiligo. Can I hope that proper medicne and diet can cure my son permanently?

Thanks and Regards.
Mrs. Salvi.

Hi Mrs. Salvi,

Yes, Diet, good amount of water intake and Oil bath can heal the child. Since he is just 5 years i do not want recommend any medications. External application of Ludem oil followed by warm water bath after 30 minutes everyday helps. Also please check his Vitamin D levels as children with Vitamin D deficiency are prone to get this white spots. Add 2 cod liver oil capsules a day to improve the Vitamin D levels. There is a common myth about the Vitiligo that it cannot be cured, but contrarily, remarkable re pigmentation can be achieved and its spread can be arrested provided the patient follows dietary restrictions and takes appropriate treatment for the prescribed duration. A proper assessment of known causative factor of Vitiligo, such as, plastic slippers, gloves, and other plastic materials, pressure or traumas, is mandatory and if required the patient needs to discard these.

Yoga and Diet Plan

It varies from person to person based on age, sex, stress level, causes etc. We recommend the individual to meet us at least once in 15 days to understand and help better.

Natural ways to sleep

1. A person’s ability to cope with stress is hugely affected by relationships. Build strong relationships with loved ones, friends and co-workers. Your outlook on life also determines your perception of situations. Try to keep a positive, upbeat attitude. Do not try to bring perfection, learn to be easy-going. Everyone goes through challenging situations in life but those who are emotionally healthy are able to bounce back more quickly and move forward.
2. Exercise is a great means of relaxing and relieving stress which inturn helps sleep
3. Practice other stress relieving methods such as yoga, swim etc – induce natural sleep
4. Get involved in hobbies like gardening and scrapbooking – makes you relax internally which helps sleep
5. Herbs such as Ashwagandha and Bacopa help the mind and body be relaxed and yet feel energetic. Ashwagandha is often recommended in autoimmune diseases such as arthritis as it is an anti-inflammatory and also helps the body to relax.

Kind regards,
Rikta Mohinta

Hi Rikta,

Ayurveda has many remedies and therapies for Melasma. Ayurveda, as a holistic medicine addresses this problem both from inside and outside. Ayurveda explains as the facial beauty is the reflection of physical, mental and spiritual well being. Hence, Ayurveda recommends the traditional detoxification therapies followed by rejuvenation therapies for this condition.

As a pacification therapy, Ayurveda recommends a special eight fold therapy for a period of 28-40 days for complete cure. This facial therapies helps improves the blood circulation in the skin which in turn detox and rejuvenate itself. Even though the results are slow, it yields better results than any other chemical or Modern medicine based creams

1. Gentle application of fresh aloe vera juice followed by warm water wash: Modern researchers do accept it as aloe vera contains mucilaginous polysaccharides which has a significant result on lightening the dark spots. Ayurveda recommends this application on face should be a gently one and to be done for 15 minutes.
2. Application of Orange skin fresh or powder mixed with milk – It is very good skin exfoliator which can lighten the skin discolorations in no time. Gentle application followed by warm water wash after 30 minutes
3. Application of turmeric powder mixed with warm milk – 5 tablespoon of turmeric powder mixed with 10 tablespoon of milk and applied all over the face followed by warm massage for 20 minutes helps followed by warm water wash
4. Almond paste with honey as pack for 15 minutes followed by warm water wash after 15 minutes
5. Application of fresh lemon juice with gentle massage followed by warm water wash after 10 minutes
6. Onion seed paste application followed by warm water wash after 15 minutes
7. Thulasi leave paste pack followed by warm water wash after 15 minutes
8. Finally 10 minutes pack with Thriphala choornam for 10 minutes followed by warm water wash (Ayurveda recommends using Thriphala Kashayam for face wash helps both in prevention and cure, Ayurveda also recommends 1 tablespoon of Thriphala choornam at bed time with warm water also helps in healing)

Home remedies for Melasma

a. Vinegar: Dilute vinegar equally with water, and use to cleanse and rinse your face. Allow to air dry to seal in moisture. Or, use the vinegar/water mixture in place of an astringent or toner. Vinegar is chemically acetic acid, and is capable of whitening and brightening, as well as making skin smoother and more radiant. It has also long been used for a skin softener. Apple cider or other natural vinegars are recommended, though some people use distilled white vinegar.
b. Onion Juice: To get onion juice, you can finely chop up an onion, or blend it, and squeeze the juice through a cheese cloth. Mix with equal part apple cider vinegar, apply twice daily with a cotton ball and watch for results over the next several weeks. Alternatively, you can cut a slice of onion, dip it in vinegar, and apply it to the pigmentation.
c. Lemon Juice: Applying the juice of a fresh lemon to the pigmentation has a similar effect to the onion remedy – it is acidic and can safely peel off the top layer of skin, causing spots to fade.
d. Onion, vinegar and lemon juice are excellent home remedies to relieve you of age spots, Melasma, pigmentation and discoloration. I found this treatment quite effective for lightening over several weeks – what I didn’t like was the onion smell. Though it was great in a pinch, I didn’t want to have stinky hands and face for life, so I learned of many more natural remedies to combat my Melasma.

Can you suggest me the intake that I should take for hair problem and some yoga or exercises. Kindly tell me the good ayurvedic shampoo that is available in the market.

Understanding the cause helps to cure the condition. Instead of trying various remedies randomly, check your Vitamin D, Iron and Thyroid profiles. This not only suggest the cause for the hair fall also reflects your health condition.

Please send me the reports, I will suggest the natural remedies accordingly.

Dear Sir,
I have been affected with Alopecia Areata for the last 10-12 yrs. My scalp hair, moustache, eyebrows, chest hairs have lost. By the grace of The Almighty my scalp hairs have regrown and NO hair grows in other affected areas.

I have undergone allopathic treatment / Siddha etc but of no use.

I have discontinued all the treatments due to side effects it had led to.

Earlier I applied garlic paste on my scalp for reqrowth of hair and it has come out successfully . Due to sensitivity in facial skins when applied in these areas it leads to scar marks or skin burn or even bruises.

Please advise home or natural remedies to get back my lost hairs.

Internal and external application.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Wasim,

Any treatment if not scientific will not yield results, especially in cases of hair fall. Check your Vitamin D, Iron and Thyroid levels. Unless you correct any of these deficient, the proper expected results wont come. Please send me the blood results and i will send my recommendations
