Health recipe of the day: Moong dal korma

This healthy lentil side dish fortified with garlic and cinnamon to fight colds can also be served as soup and is a great way to begin your meal.

1/2 inch piece – cinnamon
1 – cardamom
2 – cloves
1 cup – moong dal
1 medium size – onion
1 – tomato
1 – green chilli
Turmeric powder, a pinch
2 tsp – chilli powder
3 to 4 chopped – garlic
1 medium size – lemon
3 tsp – oil


Dry roast moong dal for a few mins till nice aroma comes.
Pressure cook dal with 1/4 cup of water till mushy and keep aside.
In a kadai, heat oil, add cinnamon, cloves and cardamom and saute well.
Add chilli, garlic and onion and keep sauteing till onions are fried well.
Now add tomato and fry for 2 mins, add turmeric and chilli powder.
Add mashed moong dal and 1/2 cup water.
Leave it to boil for 5 mins.
Switch off and squeeze lemon while serving!
