The advantages of a Pilates workout
During the first half of the 20th century, a German physical-culturist from Mönchengladbach, named Joseph Pilates designed a new form of workout—Pilates. He developed a system of exercises that were intended to strengthen the human mind and body. Pilates believed that mental and physical health are interrelated. Pilates exercises are very much directed toward developing core strength and efficient movement habits that translate into daily life.
How Pilates works
It’s believed that adding some Pilates-style training to your workouts could see you getting fewer injuries and lifting more weight. Pilates demands intense focus. “You have to concentrate on what you’re doing all the time. And you must concentrate on your entire body for smooth movements.” It emphasises moving from the centre of the body—the powerhouse—and developing core strength in the deep muscles of the centre to stabilise the trunk and protect the back. In other words, it puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, and developing a strong powerhouse, and improving coordination and balance. The Pilates system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginning to advanced, and also in terms of the instructor and practitioner’s specific goals and/or limitations. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.

According to experts, the reason why Pilates works well for men because they tend to emphasise on a part-by-part approach to muscular development. Experts say that there is nothing about the Pilates method that is haphazard. The reason one needs to concentrate so thoroughly is because one can be in control of every aspect of every moment. Core strength, flexibility, balance, uniform development, and efficient movement patterns—all are hallmarks of Pilates training and highly relevant to men’s fitness.

In the last decade, Pilates has seen a massive acceptance from many celebrities and sportsmen from India. It’s slowly becoming a workout trend in the country. Today, there are many Pilates boutiques in different parts of the country and the workout is slowing entering the league of any other commonly followed workout ritual.
